Panthers bring holiday cheer to western NC after Hurricane Helene
The program, now in its sixth year, brought much-needed resources to schools in western North Carolina, as well as an emotional boost for students.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a heartwarming display of community support, The David & Nicole Tepper Foundation, Carolina Panthers, and Coca-Cola Consolidated have extended their annual “Joy to the Carolinas” program to hurricane-impacted schools in western North Carolina this week.
The initiative, now in its sixth year, brought holiday spirit and much-needed resources to students at W.D. Williams Elementary School in Swannanoa and North Cove Elementary School in Marion on December 4th and 5th. The program went beyond traditional charitable efforts, providing a comprehensive support package that included both emotional and material assistance.
Panthers legends Jonathan Stewart and Kenny Moore, Jr. joined the festivities in Swannanoa, while Dwight Stone visited Marion. The events were further brightened by the presence of the Panthers’ mascot Sir Purr, the TopCats cheerleaders, and a special appearance by the Coca-Cola polar bear.
The charitable visit was more than just a morale boost. Representatives from the foundations distributed Santa sacks filled with coats, shoes, toys for students, and gift cards for teachers and staff. These gifts were carefully packed at Bank of America Stadium, demonstrating the thoughtful preparation behind the initiative.
Campus improvements were also a key component of the program. The Coca-Cola Consolidated Response Team assisted with debris removal, and North Cove Elementary School received an exciting announcement about a new playground.
The week’s activities culminated in a celebratory appreciation dinner at the historic Biltmore Estate in Asheville. Nearly 300 community partners and first responders were honored, including organizations like MANNA Foodbank, World Central Kitchen, Global Empowerment Mission, the American Red Cross, Team Rubicon, Haywood Christian Ministry and Biltmore Church.
